The In-betweens of Sept. and Oct.

In between Noah's cross country meets and our hikes, normal life was happening. For example, I actually went mountain biking once and it was crazy beautiful.

Terry accomplished a much anticipated project. He used the extra dirt from the new gate patio to raise up the area next to our house...

And he tidied it up so it now looks all fancy.

Ezra ran into something and gave himself a black eye.

Youth group began in earnest. This night was a massive game of Rock Paper Scissors.

Grampa B bought over our annual pumpkins.

The littles claimed the largest for themselves and Noah and Evie are old enough not to grumble about it.

Trouncer acted like a cat and sat on my laptop.

Oh yeah, back to biking on September 29th. That's me, Kyle, Mary, Zeb, Zeb's brother whose name I can no longer remember because it's been so long, and Denise.

Like I said above, it was beautiful. This was Howling Beagle which is just up Nemo Road and it was the perfect time of year to go, though it was pretty cold when we weren't moving.

Girls at the top.

It took a long time to set my camera up to do a timed shot with me in it.

Later that evening I made gluten free soft pretzels and they were a fail. They tasted just okay, but GF dough is ridiculous to work with so I couldn't even shape them properly. They turned out looking exactly like pale turds before I baked them, no joke. 😆

Evie discovered this old fingerprint craft book of hers. Apparently a spider or octopus was for dinner. 😂

The weather did snap back to nice for a while and I had the kids eat lunch outside one day. Ignore Noah's fake grumpy face and look at that lovely morning glory behind them.

Ezra was a Ninja Warrior since we were still watching that show.

Time to pick the apples on October third.

Look at how pretty they were!

We've never had such large apples. All thanks to the rain this summer.

Prae headed up and organized youth band for the first time in years.

We went out to the ranch on October 5th to help vaccinate Jerry's calves before he sold them a week or so later.

Surprisingly Steven came out to help again. I never thought he'd want to after last spring's debacle

The kids got to see their favorite hens.

We got to find one of their very first eggs!!

It was super fun.

And they're so little compared to regular large eggs (the dark one on the right).

Evie was grumpy I made her hair in a bun one day. It was necessary though I can't remember why. She's often grumpy these days. 😛

We spotted our old van on the south side of town one day (you can tell because they kept the Star Wars stickers)!

One last beautiful morning of golden sunlight before the frost and snow came.

It came on October 8th.

Boo!

Though the little wildflowers peeking out from under the snow was pretty.

So sad not to be able to run and play with bare feet!

Samuel was morose. 😜😂 No he was just laying around. I thought it was random and funny.

Samuel and a grumpy cat.

He lost another tooth that night, October 10th.

Ezra and a grumpy cat. He's so patient with this kind of thing, Trouncer that is.

Luna and Trouncer play fight quite a bit. We used to be so worried about it but no one has ever seriously hurt the other.

Noah got his twin blocks removed on October 12th. Yay! They'd been on since June, and although we'd gotten used to his garbled speech, it was nice to hear him more clearly again. Though of course now his voice is very raspy and changing...

We celebrated with some Culvers.

Later that evening we were all playing outside and Trounce felt brave enough to venture into the field behind our house.

He was following some birds in those bushes. When he came back all fierce and playful, he started attacking the tall grass.

He would jump up and try to grab the tops. 😂😂😂

Five days later he caught his first bird...well, the first that we know of. He brought it inside! The following week we came home from church to the school room full feathers and one bloody beak (he goes in and out through the dog door). Apparently Trouncer ate the rest of the bird!

True to his word, Noah has been running two or three times a week. Daddy goes with him when he can.

My dad came to pick up Luna for a playdate on October 16th. He's always wanted to take her hunting but it's never worked out. It hasn't worked out this year either due to my uncle having a heart attack and open heart surgery (!). But before that dad took Luna to the trap club to see how she'd do with guns. She did well.

Afterwards they walked through the field and dad shot a dove. Luna couldn't find where it fell but she found their hiding place. Dad brought the silly thing home to practice fetching with.

There's the dove toss.

It took her a few times to figure out that she could retrieve it and she only did it once.

Good girl Luna. Maybe she'll go pheasant hunting next year.
