dahlias 2019

I still have hundreds of 2019's dahlias on my phone...in large part because I had almost none in 2020 thanks to overcrowding them. Derp. Here are just some of them.

Trying hard to capture the natural sparkle in the sun.

I'm gonna try to plant 2021's dahlias early inside and try to get earlier blooms.

Dinnerplates are my favorite!!

Stupid grasshoppers. If you know how to kill them, please share. Last year I started cutting them in half with scissors. 🙊😆

Luna was SO BIG!

I love this one.

This moth hummingbird-like creature visited from petunias several times. It was so cool!

On September 11th it rained and the dahlias were stunning. I remember because it was the day Luna went into labor!

This photo is my phone wallpaper!

starting school 2019-2020

When we returned from our Colorado vacation on August 13th, we had to jump into homeschool pretty much right away.

Okay, I might have had time to admire my dahlias which hadn't started to bloom until like the week before vacation.

And of course we had to visit the library for new books so we would have reading material. I can't remember if we planned to go with the O's or not but there's Abigail with Evie - bff's.

Our neighbor was having a garage sale and we thought it was a good opportunity for Evie to set-up the  lemonade stand she'd been wanting all summer. We also made up some cookies to sell. She's excited because she's adding the magic ingredient of marshmallows - those make everything more special in her eyes.

They did pretty well for themselves!

We also had some last of the summer smores.

Yep, Trouncer too.

Then, a week after returning home, on August 19th, we had our first day of school.

Jumping for joy?

Nope, definitely not joy. Just being silly.

No one wants to start school ever, especially in August.

In 2019 Evie was in Faith's Classical Co-op class all day on Mondays. This was her first day, August 26th, and I attended all day with her. Noah had his cross country stuff all ready to go too because he had his Biology lab class there in the morning. Afterwards Terry picked him up, took him to church for lunch, and then drove him to RCC for practice.

another spring blizzard and climbing after

Noah had three of his seven track meets cancelled, including Custer's on Thursday, April 11th, due to crazy spring snow storms like this one that lasted for two or three days. Of course that wasn't the last storm we had. Just this last weekend in late May we had a storm that produced two feet of snow in the hills!

It was very heavy wet stuff.

I made my first attempt at gluten free cinnamon rolls (King Arthur). They had to be rolled out on waxed paper so that they could be rolled up by it too.

Like so.

They also had to be placed in muffin tins so they'd keep their round shape. Gluten free dough is just the worst (the gluten rolls to the left are clearly superior). However, the littles enjoyed the heck out of them.

Blizzard footage including the cat and dog and rolls.

The following day the littles got much needed haircuts.

He's so cute. I just want to eat him all the time.

Samuel has the sweetest eyes.

Also crazy eyes.

Bedtime bros.

The next day Ezra got pretty sick. I was worried about flu or strep but it was neither and he was fine.

Noah had his 8th grade standardized testing to do that weekend.

The following day, Saturday the 13th, Denise asked if I'd come along for a girls afternoon out. Um, yes. We visited the indoor rock wall for some expensive fun. Jazmin nailed this one.

Denise did the same move but her legs are shorter, which made her look cooler actually.

They all say I'm a natural climber but I don't know why. Clearly I can't do amazing stuff like this!

Denise, me, Jaz, and Zoe. Fun times.
