July 4, 2019 times two

It rained or snowed most of the month of May, and drowned my dahlia tubers (planted May 13), thus giving them a late start. It rained practically the entire time we were gone in Mexico the first two weeks of June. It did not stop raining in July either. Here we are heading out the ranch for the 4th of July.

It was *pouring.* The radar often looked like this during the "summer" of 2019.

Low clouds and rain on the interstate heading north.

Puddles and running water everywhere at the ranch.

The kids all played on the Nintendo Switch while we waited out the rain.

It did eventually quit long enough for the sun to come out and for us to take some updated family pictures.

Just us.

Just funny us.

Of course we had to wrangle some chickens while we were out.

Expert chicken wranglers.

A couple of cute little boys.

I mentioned in my Badlands hike post how there was clover absolutely everywhere. This picture shows what it was like.

We did manage to shoot off a few fireworks before it started raining again.

The chicken laying a balloon egg was a bit lame to watch but it was still funny.

It poured again on the way home.

The rain and video of the littles' favorite firecracker, the parachute guys. They both shot into the field because on the wind and Terry went out there (in the extreme mud) to fetch them.

Three days later on the July 7th, we went out for round two. We had bought all the fireworks in a soggy tent while it poured and by golly, we were going to use them. After we held some chickens that is.

My favorite tree in the fading light.

Just about time to start.

Time!

Though we set off some parachute guys already before I guess we had more.

Daddy helped all the kids except Noah. I was the photographer.

Chilling with Gramma.

Getting darker.

That's the good stuff.

I had so much video but shaved it down to these three videos.

summer vacation 2019 begins

Since the first two weeks of June were taken up in Mexico and California on our mission trip, we got a late start on summer vacation.

The day after our Badlands visit, June 22, Noah and Evie (and daddy) put their Mexico painting skills to work by helping a couple from church, Roger and Marilyn. They spent most of the day painting their outdoor covered porch.

On June 23rd, one week after returning from the Mexico trip, we went to church in style in the New Yorker.

We visited the ranch on June 26th.

My favorite tree surrounded by very tall grass.

We helped grandpa get a new bed installed.

We also checked out his new truck (we got his old Equinox after we sold the Malibu).

I worked quite a bit that summer due to one of the nurses being out on maternity leave.

Lots of rain equals lots of strawberries.

We got the kids a new pool which promptly sprung a leak later this day, June 28th.

Evie spent the night with Elle on June 29th and Frannie sent me some pictures that Asher took of them at Storybook Island (he worked there).

More swimming on July 1.

We helped my dad stack wood on July 2nd.

After he fixed his chain saw...

Good little helpers.

Branding 2019

We had to put off branding several times this spring due to excessive raining and flooding.

A couple days earlier, when the kids and I had driven over the creek on the West Main bridge, the entire field was flooded.

Crazy flooding this year.

Back to branding. We ended up having to do it on Ezra's sixth birthday, May 31st.

We gave him a kitty to hold while we sang to him.

We thought it'd be exciting for him to see all his gifts right away in the morning in order to build excitement for celebrating later in the day. Also, Evie's face. 😂

Donuts. Yeah, because we started experimenting with adding some gluten back into the boys diet after school was done. Gluten free eating was hit or miss while we were gone on Mexico and I think after we got back we just threw the whole thing out. The boys have been fine!

Off to grandparent's house we go.

The line-up. Jessica, Carson, and Sydney came to help even though they no longer rent out there.

I've been wanting to re-make this photo from 2015 for some time and finally remembered.

Got the first calf on the table.

The first brand going on.

Handing off the vaccines.

Rebekah was not happy for some reason.

Harry and Janet came out to watch.

Terry goes wherever he's needed, either the tub or the shoot.

Gotta move those calfs along.

There were a handful of calves that were late and therefore too little to brand. This little guy was one. He just sat down when he got in there.

This next little one was born on Evie's birthday (March 31st), so they named her Evie.

The Evies.

She was so little, cute, sweet, and tame. Everyone followed her out of the table and petted her.

I took the kids' picture in front of my tree when they were through with Evie calf.

And the other way.

Branding videos, yay!

We took a short ride in the side-by-side and Ezra did not like me taking selfies with him.

After lunch my parents came out to celebrate Ezra. They arrived in time for watching and partaking in the first roller coaster of the season. That's my mom riding!

Ezra was so excited.

He used to be terrified of this thing and look at him now.

I love their expressions.

Yeah, he's happy.

His face cracks me up...and makes me want to devour him.

*So green!* All summer long as been incredibly green. Plus it took into July for it to dry out enough to cut, rake, and bail.

My folks coming back from admiring the chickens.

Just a couple videos of the roller coaster.

Cake time!

It took Ezra several tries to blow out those candles.

See Samuel showing him how to do it? Ezra kept blowing up his face instead of out.

Pokemon cards.

Parachute Legos!

A Ninja-Line for our little American Ninja Warrior. The boys are all about that show.

The crew.

We had a lovely time together.

Cake time.

NOM.

He was tired out going home that evening.

We love you like crazy Ezra!

The two birthday songs that day, firstly when we woke him up and then later at the ranch.
