Red Lodge cabin, Day 2 {Sabbatical in Montana}

After having arrived at Terry's Great Grandmother's cabin in Red Lodge, Montana the following evening, we got up neither bright nor early, and had ourselves some eggs and pancakes. And that's what Terry made every single morning! It was fun to indulge. After breakfast the kids opened a gift we had bought from Who's for the occasion, a game called Roller Coaster Challenge. They had a lot of fun making different roller coaster courses our six days there.

Evie made hot chocolate every morning, and I thought Ezra looked so big and proper drinking out of that big mug! Awww...

After playing for a while, we walked down the gravel road in search of the Rock Creek bridge to check out the river. Beautiful right?

We found a gate just after the neighbor's cabin which surprised us since we remembered it as being further away.

There is it! Isn't that water a bit scary? I gave all the kids lectures about staying away from it since a kayaker had drown in this river the week before.

In a row on the bridge.

This made me nervous but Terry wasn't as freaked out by the high water as I was. And they were further away than it appears...

Terry vacationed out here nearly every summer for most of his childhood and spent the majority of his time fishing. Why we didn't pack fishing poles I don't know but the kids made the most of it and fished with sticks. They thought it was great. Plus this section down from the bridge was very shallow and calm, though it freaked me out at first!

Noah is too big to fish with sticks so we introduced him to whittling. Terry had given him his first pocket knife and I suggested he put it to good use. He liked it.

Up river.

Down river.

The other side of the bridge.

From further back.

There was a pretty little stream running along side Rock Creek.

And a little bridge over it leading to another cabin subdivision next to the highway.

I walked farther out into the meadow surrounded by large lots and their cabins and looked back at the kids on the bridge.

I had to hike through the underbrush to get this shot. Ha ha.

I don't remember what we had for dinner that night but afterwards we did another fire pit with smores. Cute little Samuel.

 Pretty Evie.

Whittling Noah.

It got chilly enough at night that it was nice to have the fire.

Trying to get the marshmallows just right.

I love smores!

It was common for littles' marshmallows to catch fire.

Evie was the best at getting the marshmallows well browned and toasted. She roasted them for all of us. She doesn't like a full smore since she's a crazy person, so she ate only the marshmallows.

"How do I get all of this in my mouth?"

Mmmm mmmm good. Ha ha ha.

Evie stole the camera and started taking pictures of everyone.

Silly mommy and Samuel.

He's so cute!

Noah spent quite a lot of time reading Eragon. He finished the entire book while we were there.

I'm not usually the one being photographed so might as well make it interesting. He he.

We spent a lot of time reading through the journals that are in the cabin. One of them began sometime in the 50s or 60s! We found this old photo of Lucille and the 1977 Chrysler Town and Country inside that journal!

Mystery man atop Beartooth Pass with the Chrysler.

This was the first entry by Terry that we found! So cute!!

Terry's mom, Alice's entry from 1992.

Terry added to hers on the next page along with his fun cousin Brett.

Zoom. I loved seeing his entries.
