Ezra's 5th bday in Red Lodge & the end of our vaca

May 31, 2018 was our final day of vacation at the cabin and also Ezra's fifth birthday. We had arrived back at the cabin from Yellowstone kind of late so we all slept in. Once Terry and I got up we went over to the littles' bed and sang Ezra awake with the birthday song, as is tradition.

What a cute little five year old! Love that boy.

Evie did not want to get up, mostly because Noah laughed at her facial sunburn everywhere but under her glasses.

We made pancakes for breakfast.

The kids are so diligent about reading their Bibles. The have a year long plan and they rarely miss a day, which is way better than I can say for myself. Mommy's been slacking this year because I bit off more than I could chew.

We just wanted to lay low that day so Terry played some Battleship with the littles. Randomly that is what they had played at our Idaho airbnb and also what they had received in their happy meals the night before! In the three games they received, I think they used up every single game paper that came with it.

It had rained practically our entire vacation so when it turned out to be a sunny day (ahem, sunny morning), the kids went outside to play with their new laser tag game.

It didn't work too well in the sunlight so unfortunately they gave up after not long.

I had forgot about this sign that we took our family picture under in 2010. Terry's great grandmother was a Miller.

Stepped back to the fence to get in the whole cabin.

Even though it was nice outside we kept the fire going. It was always chilly in the cabin.

After the laser tag fell through, the kids and daddy worked on making a rock bridge over the creek.

Here comes daddy with a big rock.

Terry carefully chose his spot and it was promptly covered with water.

Evie could get over by herself.

But the littles needed help.

After lunch we loaded up in the van for a drive up Beartooth Highway. Despite the fact that the pass was still closed at the Wyoming line, I was surprised by how much snow was still there.

When we reached about the halfway point at Vista Point I had the kids climb up the snow drift where we had taken a family picture last year.

What a difference time of year makes! The weather was absolutely perfect our entire trip in mid-July last year but raining on us every single day in late May.

So much snow!

The kids were searching for chipmunks.

And they found them!

They also found a marmot! We'd never seen one up there before, or probably ever before.

The kids took way better pictures of the chipmunks than I did.

The path out to the point was closed. I was quite bummed about that. It had become a tradition.

This was the exit. You can see how the highway continues to climb.

Looking back down at Vista Point.

One of Noah's pictures I think...

Beautiful! So much snow still!

Beautiful views in every direction.

We didn't know we were nearing the state line pretty near the top of the pass when the road started getting all foggy. At first we thought it was steam and then decided it was just clouds. It could have been both...

Video of the fog and walls of snow.

We made it to the state line and could go no further. The Wyoming side was supposed to open in two days which was such a bummer to us. We'll never go so early in the year again, that's for sure.

There's the blockade.

We did walk around on the snow a bit though.

I think just about everyone but me had gotten their shoes wet in the creek and had to wear their sandals. Cold toes!

He looks so cool in his sunglasses and sandals in the snow.

Noah might have had dry shoes and wandered off to take pictures.

At least the snow was melting...

We valiantly attempted to have another snowball fight like we usually do up there but no one really wanted to. Too cold!

I at least had warm toes.

Rocky mountain top.

Cold Samuel toes.

Mountain top selfie with my crazy husband.

Next we turned around and headed home. It was starting to rain in any case. Since this was the biggest snow wall we were going to see that day, we took a picture with it.

It was his birthday after all.

It wasn't Noah's birthday.

Nor Evie's. I don't know why Samuel didn't get a picture.

Terry took my picture with the punks.

Then Noah took our picture together.

Selfie!

The rain was quickly approaching as we made our way down the mountain. 😕

From there we went directly in Red Lodge for dinner. We discovered that the same pizza place we went to last year served gluten free pizza so that sealed the deal. I like Ezra's little face. He is embarrassed that I was looking at him. He's so cute though!

A little video our exchange.

Pizza time!

Fun wall decoration.

We took our leftovers to go.

Terry took a picture of us outside.

And I took his in front of this funny little truck.

Again, just like last year, we went for ice cream at Scoops.

Ezra got the birthday cake flavor and then didn't like it very much. The kids also watched part of Jurassic Park 3 (I think) and then really wanted to see the original when we got home. They'd seen Jurassic World which is not nearly as scary but didn't think they were up for the original. We watched it anyway. Samuel cried about dinosaurs in his bed that night. Whoops. 😮😂

We thought we'd take Ezra to the Red Lodge park that he's always said he wanted to play at.

I love his face here.

The kids started playing tag and daddy joined them.

I love his crazy face.

Noah almost made Evie fall I think.

Holding on for dear life.

When we got back to the cabin that night we had a small birthday party for Ezra.

I hadn't made the cake I brought and planned to make but he got to open the few little gifts we hauled up there.

Terry bought this Batman wallet back in January at the Stock Show when Samuel bought his Spiderman wallet.

A big truck and a few other little things.

After the party we all went to bed so we could get up bright and early and hit the road for home. Terry was writing in the cabin journal real quick before we left...

...when he went all crazy! 😂

Packed and ready to go!

Once last look at the cabin.

I guess we pulled everyone out of the van for one last family photo.

I went back to reset the camera since it had tipped and decided to make the most of it and go for a funny picture while the timer went off. When we showed my parents all our pictures that night, my mom laughed so hard at the five pictures of me here and said it was her favorite of all the thousands of pictures she saw. 😂 She about coughed up a lung with all her laughing.

One more shot. Which one is better I couldn't decide.

It sure looked dark in Wyoming...

...and it rained for a couple of hours. It was always raining on this trip.

Ezra fell asleep in the rain, Samuel went crazy and so did Noah, while Evie was super serious.

My mom was super sweet that evening. They brought Luna and Trouncer back home, made us dinner, and made a cake for Ezra! So we went ahead and celebrated that night.

He got Legos of course. They kids really missed their pets, especially Trouncer.

One more birthday song and the end of the night and our vacation.
